സാഹിത്യകാരന്‍, ഗാന്ധിയന്‍, അധ്യാപകന്‍, പത്രാധിപര്‍, വിമര്‍ശകന്‍ എന്നീ നിലകളില്‍ ആറുപതിറ്റാണ്ടിലേറെ കേരള മനസാക്ഷിയുടെ ശബ്്ദമായി നിലകൊണ്ട അഴീക്കോടിന്റെ അന്ത്യം. 85 വയസായിരുന്നു. അര്‍ബുദ ബാധിതനായി അദ്ദേഹം രണ്ടുമാസത്തോളമായി തൃശൂര്‍ അമല ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ ചികിത്സയിലായിരുന്നു. സംസ്കാരം പൂര്‍ണ ഔദ്യോഗിക ബഹുമതികളോടെ നടക്കും. അവിവാഹിതനാണ്. ദേവദാസ്, പരേതരായ ദമയന്തി, ലക്ഷ്മി, ഗോപാലകൃഷ്ണന്‍, പദ്മിനി എന്നിവരാണ് സഹോദരങ്ങള്‍. സെന്റ് ആഗ്നസ് കോളജില്‍ അധ്യാപകനായിരുന്ന വിദ്വാന്‍ പനങ്കാവില്‍ ദാമോദരന്റേയും കേളോത്ത് തട്ടാരത്ത് മാധവിയമ്മയുടേയും ആറു മക്കളില്‍ നാലാമനായി 1926 മേയ് 12ന് കണ്ണൂര്‍ ജില്ലയിലെ അഴീക്കോടായിരുന്നു ജനനം. തേഡ് ഫോറം വരെ അഴീക്കോട് സൌത്ത് ഹയര്‍ എലിമന്ററി സ്കൂളിലായിരുന്നു പഠനം. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ചിറയ്ക്കല്‍ രാജാസ് ഹൈസ്കൂളില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന ആദ്ദേഹം 1941ല്‍ എസ്എസ്എല്‍സി പാസായി. മംഗലാപുരം സെന്റ് അലോഷ്യസില്‍ നിന്ന് 1946-ല്‍ ബികോം ബിരുദം നേടി. ഇതിനിടെ ഒരു വര്‍ഷം കോട്ടയ്ക്കല്‍ ആയുര്‍വേദ കോളജില്‍ വൈദ്യപഠനം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. കോഴിക്കോട് ഗവണ്‍മെന്റ് ട്രെയിനിംഗ് കോളജില്‍ നിന്ന് അധ്യാപക പരിശീലന (ബിടി) ബിരുദം നേടി. കണ്ണൂരിലെ ചിറക്കല്‍ രാജാസ് ഹൈസ്കൂളില്‍ അധ്യാപകനായി. എംഎ ബിരുദമെടുക്കുന്നതിനുമുമ്പേ മംഗലാപുരം സെന്റ് അലോഷ്യസ് കോളജില്‍ മലയാളം-സംസ്കൃതം ലക്ചററായി. പ്രൈവറ്റായി പഠിച്ചാണ് മദ്രാസ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയില്‍ നിന്ന് മലയാളത്തിലും സംസ്കൃതത്തിലും എംഎ ബിരുദങ്ങള്‍ സ്വന്തമാക്കിയത്. 1981 ല്‍ കേരള യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയില്‍ നിന്ന്് പിഎച്ച്ഡിയും കരസ്ഥമാക്കി. 1946ല്‍ ജോലി തേടി ഡല്‍ഹിയിലെത്തി. ലഭിച്ച ഉദ്യോഗം വേണ്െടന്നുവച്ച് തിരിച്ചുപോരുമ്പോള്‍ സേവാഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ ചെന്ന് ഗാന്ധിജിയെ കണ്ടു. കോഴിക്കോട് ദേവഗിരി സെന്റ് ജോസഫ്സ് കോളജിലെ മലയാളം ലക്ചറര്‍(1956-62), മൂത്തകുന്നം എസ്എന്‍എം ട്രെയിനിംഗ് കോളജ് പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പല്‍(1962-71), കാലിക്കട്ട് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി മലയാളം പ്രഫസര്‍ (1971-86), അവിടെ തന്നെ പ്രോ-വൈസ്ചാന്‍സലര്‍, ആക്്ടിംഗ് വൈസ്ചാന്‍സലര്‍(1974-78) എന്നീ നിലകളില്‍ സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. 1986ല്‍ കാലിക്കട്ട് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയില്‍ നിന്ന് വിരമിച്ചു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് കാലിക്കട്ട് വാഴ്സിറ്റിയിലെ ആദ്യ എമരിറ്റസ് പ്രഫസറായും യുജിസിയുടെ ഭാരതീയ ഭാഷാപഠനത്തിന്റെ പാനല്‍ അംഗമായും കേന്ദ്ര-കേരള സാഹിത്യഅക്കാദമികളില്‍ നിര്‍വാഹകസമിതി അംഗമായും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു. യുജിസിയുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ മലയാളം നാഷണല്‍ ലക്ചറര്‍, സമസ്ത കേരള സാഹിത്യപരിഷത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ്(1965-77), നാഷണല്‍ ബുക് ട്രസ്റ് ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ചെയര്‍മാന്‍(1993-96) തുടങ്ങിയ നിലകളില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1962ല്‍ ലോക്സഭാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ തലശേരി നിയോജകമണ്ഡലത്തില്‍നിന്ന് കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥിയായി മല്‍സരിച്ചെങ്കിലും സാഹിത്യകാരനായ എസ്.കെ. പൊറ്റെക്കാടിനോടു തോറ്റു. വിദ്യാര്‍ഥി കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിലൂടെയാണ് രാഷ്്ട്രീയ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം തുടങ്ങിയത്. മൂത്തകുന്നം കോളജില്‍ പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പലായിരുന്നപ്പോള്‍ രാഷ്്ട്രീയ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം നിര്‍ത്തി. ഔദ്യോഗിക ജീവിതത്തില്‍ നിന്നു വിരമിച്ചശേഷം തൃശൂര്‍ ജില്ലയിലെ വിയ്യൂരിലാണ് ഏറെക്കാലം താമസിച്ചത്. പിന്നീട് എരവിമംഗലത്തേക്കു താമസം മാറ്റി. ഉപനിഷത്തുകളുടെ സമഗ്രപഠനമായി അദ്ദേഹം രചിച്ച ‘തത്ത്വമസി’ എന്ന കൃതിക്ക് 1985ല്‍ കേന്ദ്ര-കേരള സാഹിത്യഅക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡുകളും 1989ല്‍ വയലാര്‍ അവാര്‍ഡ്, രാജാജി അവാര്‍ഡ്, സുവര്‍ണ കൈരളി അവാര്‍ഡ്, പുത്തേഴന്‍ അവാര്‍ഡ് തുടങ്ങി 12 അവാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ ലഭിച്ചു. 1985ല്‍ സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമിയുടെ സാഹിത്യ വിമര്‍ശനത്തിനുള്ള അവാര്‍ഡ് ‘മലയാള സാഹിത്യവിമര്‍ശം’ എന്ന കൃതിക്ക് ലഭിച്ചു. 1991ല്‍ സാഹിത്യഅക്കാദമി വിശിഷ്്ടാംഗത്വം നല്കി. 2004ല്‍ കേരള സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ എഴുത്തച്ഛന്‍ പുരസ്കാരവും 2007ല്‍ വള്ളത്തോള്‍ പുരസ്കാരവും ലഭിച്ചു. പത്രാധിപരായും കോളമിസ്റ്റായും അദ്ദേഹം തിളങ്ങി. ‘നവഭാരതി’യുടെ സ്ഥാപകാധ്യക്ഷനായും ദിനബന്ധു, മലയാള ഹരിജന്‍, ദേശമിത്രം, നവയുഗം, ദിനപ്രഭ, വര്‍ത്തമാനം എന്നീ പത്രങ്ങളില്‍ പത്രാധിപരായും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു. ‘മാതൃഭൂമി’യിലെ സാഹിതീസപര്യ, ഇന്ത്യ ടുഡേയില്‍ ‘നേര്‍ക്കാഴ്ച’, ഇന്ത്യന്‍ എക്സ്പ്രസിലെ ‘ഇന്‍-പാസിംഗ്’, മലയാള മനോരമയിലെ ‘ശനിവിശേഷം’, ദേശാഭിമാനിയിലെ ‘മറയില്ലാതെ’ എന്നീ കോളങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹം കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തു. മുപ്പത്തഞ്ചോളം കൃതികളുടെ രചയിതാവാണ്. ആശാന്റെ സീതാകാവ്യം, രമണനും മലയാളകവിതയും, പുരോഗമനസാഹിത്യവും മറ്റും, മഹാത്മാവിന്റെ മാര്‍ഗം, ശങ്കരക്കുറുപ്പ് വിമര്‍ശിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു, മഹാകവി ഉള്ളൂര്‍-ഇംഗ്ളീഷ്, മഹാകവി ഉള്ളൂര്‍-ഹിന്ദി, തെലുങ്ക്, വായനയുടെ സ്വര്‍ഗത്തില്‍, മലയാള സാഹിത്യവിമര്‍ശനം, ചരിത്രം: സമന്വയമോ സംഘട്ടനമോ, തത്വമസി, മലയാള സാഹിത്യപഠനങ്ങള്‍, വിശ്വസാഹിത്യപഠനങ്ങള്‍, തത്വവും മനുഷ്യനും, ഖണ്ഡനവും മണ്ഡനവും, എന്തിനു ഭാരതധരേ, അഴീക്കോടിന്റെ സംഭാഷണങ്ങള്‍-എഡിറ്റിംഗ് പി.വി.മുരുകന്‍, ഗുരുവിന്റെ ദുഃഖം, അഴീക്കോടിന്റെ പ്രഭാഷണങ്ങള്‍, അഴീക്കോടിന്റെ ഫലിതങ്ങള്‍, ആകാശം നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്ന ഇന്ത്യ, പാതകള്‍ കാഴ്ചകള്‍, നവയാത്രകള്‍, ഭാരതീയത, പുതുപുഷ്പങ്ങള്‍, തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത പ്രബന്ധങ്ങള്‍, പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട അഴീക്കോടിന്, ഇന്ത്യയുടെ വിപരീതമുഖങ്ങള്‍, അഴീക്കോടിന്റെ ലേഖനങ്ങള്‍, അഴീക്കോട് മുതല്‍ അയോധ്യ വരെ തുടങ്ങിയ ലേഖന സമാഹാരങ്ങളും ഒരുകൂട്ടം പഴയകത്തുകള്‍, ഹക്കിള്‍ബറി ഫിന്നിന്റെ വിക്രമങ്ങള്‍, ജയദേവന്‍ എന്നീ വിവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളും ഏറെ ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ കൃതികളാണ്

ആലപ്പുഴ: സംസ്ഥാന സ്കൂള്‍ ശാസ്ത്രമേളയില്‍ ആലപ്പുഴ പൂങ്കാവ് മേരി ഇമ്മാക്കുലേറ്റ് എച്ച്എസ് മികച്ച രണ്ടാമത്തെ സ്കൂളായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സ്കൂളില്‍ നിന്നും മത്സരിച്ച കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് അഞ്ച് എഗ്രേഡും 10 ബിഗ്രേഡും ലഭിച്ചു.

നമ്പര്‍ ചാര്‍ട്ടില്‍ സംസ്ഥാനതലത്തില്‍ രണ്ടാംസ്ഥാനവും മത്സരവിഭാഗത്തില്‍ മൂന്നാംസ്ഥാനവുമുള്‍പ്പെടെ 40 പോയിന്റുകള്‍ നേടി ഗണിതമേളയില്‍ ഒന്നാമതെത്തിയെങ്കിലും ഫസ്റ്റ് എഗ്രേഡില്ലാത്തതിനാല്‍ ഒന്നാംസ്ഥാനം ലഭിച്ചില്ല. നമ്പര്‍ ചാര്‍ട്ടില്‍ സരിതാ പണിക്കര്‍ രണ്ടാംസ്ഥാനവും എഗ്രേഡും നേടി. ഗെയിമില്‍ ജാസ്മിമോള്‍ മൂന്നാംസ്ഥാനവും എഗ്രേഡും നേടി. സ്റ്റില്‍മോഡലില്‍ സെബിന്‍ കെ. ബൈജു എഗ്രേഡ് നേടി. പസില്‍ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ മനീഷ, അദര്‍ചാര്‍ട്ടില്‍ എം. അഖില, ജ്യാമിതീയ പാറ്റേണ്‍- ശിവരഞ്ജിനി, അപ്ളൈഡ് കണ്‍സ്ട്രക്ഷന്‍- വൈശാഖ്, പ്യുവര്‍ കണ്‍സ്ട്രക്്ഷന്‍- ചിഞ്ചു സാമുവല്‍, സിങ്കിള്‍ പ്രോജക്ട്- അമല്‍ ജയന്‍, വര്‍ക്കിംഗ് മോഡല്‍- എസ്. അനുപമ എന്നിവര്‍ ബിഗ്രേഡ് നേടി. കൂടാതെ ശാസ്ത്രമേളയില്‍ വര്‍ക്കിംഗ് മോഡല്‍ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ സില്ല യേശുദാസ്, സി.ഒ. ഹരികൃഷ്ണ എന്നിവര്‍ക്ക് എഗ്രേഡും, പ്രവൃത്തി പരിചയമേളയില്‍ ജിനദേവ്, ഷെയിന്‍ യേശുദാസ് എന്നിവര്‍ക്ക് ബിഗ്രേഡും ലഭിച്ചു. സോഷ്യല്‍ സയന്‍സ് ക്വിസില്‍ സി.എസ്. അനുരാഗ്, ജ്യോതിസ് എന്നിവര്‍ ബിഗ്രേഡ് നേടി. സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ മികച്ച പിടിഎയ്ക്കുള്ള അവാര്‍ഡുനേടിയ പൂങ്കാവ് സ്കൂള്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ 26 വര്‍ഷമായി സബ്ജില്ലാതലം മുതലുള്ള ശാസ്ത്രമേളകളില്‍ മികച്ച വിജയമാണ് കാഴ്ചവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.
